Otoplasty
is a common cosmetic surgical procedure in which prominent ears
or large ears are reshaped to lie closer to the side of the
head. The procedure is sometimes known as “ear pinning”. Frequently,
this procedure is done for children who are self-conscious or
being teased about their prominent ears. Sometimes, otoplasty
is offered to young adults or older patients who always wanted
their ears corrected but did not previously have the opportunity.

who specializes in otoplasty. Dr. Bresnick became an otoplasty

Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. As an attending surgeon and
Assistant Professor of Plastic Surgery, Dr. Bresnick has performed

Otoplasty can be performed as early as age 5 or 6 years. There
is no maximum age for the procedure. The technique that Dr.
Bresnick prefers for otoplasty involves placement of a fine
incision in the natural crease behind the ear. The ear cartilage
is then reshaped with permanent sutures which heal in place
beneath the skin. These sutures are not visible. Incisions on
the front of the ear are usually not necessary. The healing
is quite rapid after surgery, with bandages coming off after
just a few days. Some minor ear is normal after surgery, but
much of the swelling reduces in the first week or so after surgery.

Dr. Bresnick

Stanford Univeristy Hospital, and then taught plastic
surgery at USC medical school before entering private
practice. He is a ear surgery expert and his experience
includes cosmetic and reconstructive external ear

is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery
